Poide has caused an error in <unknown>.
« on: September 06, 2006, 02:32:22 PM »
I installed Version 4.50.113 and continually get the error:

Poide has caused an error in <unknown>.

on entry to the IDE. I remember getting it before with the beta release 3 version before this version but just thought it was because it was a beta. This was setup with a completely empty 'PellesC' folder too, after uninstalling the previous version. My operating system is Windows ME with 384 megs of ram. Setup does still say it supports 98 and ME.
I've gone back to the 4.00.50 version for now and all is working again.  :)

It has been tested on Windows ME in the past, and worked, but since I don't want that perticular Windows version anywhere near my harddrive, it's not tested on a regular basis.

Windows 98 and Windows Me will not be supported by future versions of Pelles C, but it would be nice to get v4.50 working on your Windows Me. However, I need more information to do something (anything from screenshots to additional info). I don't even know if it's just your copy, or a general problem with Windows Me...

Ok,
But since it was on entry to the IDE, after it draws the window, theres not a whole lot to say.
I'm going to reinstall it and run the OLLYDBG debugger with it. With luck it could show the area in the code where it crashes. That , and a screenshot.
I'm sorry I didn't mention it when I tryed the release 3 beta.

OK, I understand. It's just that 'Error in <Unknown>' doesn't give me that much to work with.

- I don't immediately recognize the message as coming from Pelles C - is it a Windows message(box) / dialog?!
- Does the message mention an address somewhere?
- Do you see the message after the main window is displayed - or does it happen before?
- Will the IDE continue after the message, or just exit?

I also have this problem with latest beta version and under Win2k Sp4.
It's a Windows message with a crash at a memory address.
I don't have it always, but from time to time i have this crash when i click onto the close box of the IDE...
Hope this can help a little more...

Maybe... I develop on Windows XP, but always test on Windows 2K before a release. So far I have never seen this myself. I realized that I didn't have SP4 installed, so I have installed it now. Still works, but too early to say for sure...

If this happens to you again, can you make a note of the address? This should give me some more info... Thanks...

Thanks for the info. Not as useful as I hoped...

The adress (0x6D4C800A) is fairly high, which means it must be in a DLL. When I run POIDE on my Win2K, that address falls outside all loaded modules... Sigh...

Perhaps you can try this:
1) Start POIDE as you normally do
2) Run "Process viewer" from the Tools menu
3) Find and select poide.exe in the list of processes

In the right pane you should see all loaded DLL files. If you click on the "Address" heading, the list should be sorted in address order.

The question is now: can you, on your machine, see if the address 0x6D4C800A falls withing some module in this list (also considering the Size column)?
