Why isn't it open-sourced on github
« on: March 19, 2016, 08:43:32 PM »
Hello,

I wonder, why this is not open-sourced on GitHub.

Provided that Pelles C is a great tool and it is free, you could profit (IMO) from it:

1. Hosting, wiki etc. is free and painless.
2. GitHub attracts communities.
3. I guess more people will use it for real-world stuff, because people tend to trust open-source.
4. You can provide support services for money.

The sources of PellesC are a font of income for Pelle.
He gave license of free use of compiler and derived works for personal and commercial use on a base of voluntary donation, but you are not obliged to.
But the sources are not free.

I understand what are the terms of use. I just don't understand why they are as they are, what is the rationale? What is the business model? Like what, selling sources to people that are willing to buy them? Why would one ever want to buy the sources?

Because it is a lightweight complete development tool that can be integrated in other high end commercial products for a lot of jobs included on time compilation and internal modules customization.
